For a really unique take on Xmas festivities, organize a holiday to Taos during the course of the christmas season. The town’s Native American and Hispanic influences are popular, bringing a multicultural twist to the vacation season with entertainments like the illuminating of Ledoux Street, when the fabulous street’s shops, museums, galleries and studios present music, food and drink, and bonfires to passersby’s, and the neighborhood is lined with farolitos, or small lanterns, warmly shimmering.
Taos’s Christmas tree lighting happens at the end of November in a festivity that consists of carol singing and the arrival of Santa Claus in a vintage fire truck. In the days prior to Christmas, the town also rejoices in the Hispanic custom, “Las Posadas”, a candlelight processional at Ranchos de Taos Plaza, along with a spectacle of Los Pastores, a Spanish morality play.
